Friends of Lyme Brook is a community group established to monitor and enhance the quality of the water and the environs of the Brook as it flows through Newcastle. Set up in January 2018, we conduct monthly monitoring of water quality and litter picking.

Other activities include shopping trolley removal, “Balsam bashing”, guided bird and bat walks, and flower and tree identification sessions. More long term projects include the establishment of a wild flower meadow and improvements to the water courses. We would like to do some research on the history of the Brook and the canal that runs alongside it for a short way in the Parkway.

Our mission is to enhance and protect the Lyme Brook, Lyme Valley Parkways and promote ecological awareness of the water courses and their environs. If you would like to help with this in any way, please contact us at info@folb.org.uk
